Description
Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE) Pensacola is a project that builds upon on the City’s 2023 Active Transportation Plan and is funded through Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Award No. 693JJ32640109), Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE) Pensacola grant. The project will have a two-prong approach with supplemental planning and a demonstration quick-build component that will follow guidance from Vision Zero and Safe Systems to eliminate roadway fatalities and serious injuries. The timelines of these efforts are anticipated to overlap to meet grant deadlines. The first effort will be a quick-build, demonstration project to assess the effectiveness of low-cost, temporary safety countermeasures on Gonzalez Street to determine if it is a process that can be made permanent and replicable across the City. Gonzalez Street is a 2-mile corridor that has the potential to be a Neighborhood Greenway that prioritizes safety through low-cost design techniques that reduce speed and prioritize bicycles and pedestrians. The supplemental planning will consist of a roadway audit and development of policies and strategies to build upon the existing Active Transportation Plan and include all required components of the Safe Streets for All Grant - Safety Action Plan. The project will focus on the established High Injury Crash Network (Exhibit A) and provide a diagnosis and countermeasure identification using the safe systems approach.
