Description

The proposed work is for Landing Circle Stream Restoration. Severe stream degradation within the proposed project area has been identified in the field. This project will help improve water quality in Taskinas Creek, and ultimately Chesapeake Bay in support of James City County’s MS4 requirements. The Goal of the Landing Circle Stream Restoration Project is to stabilize the unnamed tributaries to Taskinas Creek. The tributaries will receive a priority 2 & 3 restoration technique that will reconnect to historic flood prone areas and stable entrenchments, as well as increase the width/depth ratio. Small wood debris structures aim to passively collect sediment and debris to raise slightly incised channels to connect to the historic floodplain. To the greatest extent practicable, the design channel geometries, patterns, and profiles have utilized natural channel design principles (NCD) in order to promote long term project success. Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling were used in conjunction with geomorphic assessments for design of headwater channels typical of the region. Installation of in-channel structures and enhanced reinforcement substrate will provide grade control, increase vertical dissipation of energy, and aid in retention of sediment to naturally restore flood prone or floodplain connectivity. In addition to bed stability, in-channel structures and enhanced reinforcement substrate function as habitat for colonization and reproduction of benthic macroinvertebrates and provide aquatic life use for many species. All disturbed areas will be planted with suitable native vegetation to provide long term stabilization, water quality, benefits and habitat. In addition, by restoring this stream channel, nutrients and sediment contributed by active erosion will be reduced to downstream receiving waters. NON-MANDATORY 13 Landing Circle, Williamsburg, VA 23188 on Wednesday, October 07, 2026 @ 10:00am.
