Animal Care Shelter Services

Description

The City is seeking a partnership with the Proposer to provide and operate an animal shelter facility and to handle animal care sheltering and adoption services for the City of Costa Mesa. The provider will be responsible for the intake, coordination, and management of animals within the City of Costa Mesa. Provider shall accept dogs, cats, and small animals, including reptiles, small and large birds (not including waterfowl or wildlife), goats, pigs, and other domesticated pet animals brought to the facility by City of Costa Mesa Animal Control. This includes live stray and sick domestic animals, domestic deceased animals for disposal, and owner released animals transferred by the Costa Mesa Animal Control Officers. Provider shall not perform owner requested euthanasia. Any owner euthanasia services must be conducted by a licensed veterinary provider outside of the Provider. Provider shall maintain an open shelter policy, accepting all dogs and cats brought to the facility by City of Costa Mesa residents and/or animals found within the City limits. Proof of City residency shall be required at intake; however, in the absence of such documentation, intake may be authorized at the discretion of a City of Costa Mesa Animal Control. The open shelter policy shall not apply to non-city residents or to animals found outside the City limits. Animals originating outside the City limits or relinquished by non-city residents shall not be accepted.
